En mi opinion este es un libro promedio. En comparacion con Cien Años de Soledad, El Amor en los Tiempos de Colera tiene mucho por mejorar. El realismo magico de Garcia Marquez es algo ausente por gran parte de esta historia; aunque ciertamente existen algunos momentos magicos, son muy pocos y escasos. En cuanto a estilo, es notable que fue escrito por Garcia Marquez: no hay mucho dialogo, la prosa abunda, y los detalles son infinitos y muy ricos.En mi sincera opinion, son casi 600 hojas donde no ocurre nada. Florentino se la pasa admirando a Fermina de lejos. Casi nunca tienen contacto, mas sin embargo cuando lo tienen es algo especial. Este libro contiene muchos detalles sin importancia, por ejemplo, se realata mucho de lo que sucede en la ciudad. Puedes considerar esto como un ejemplo de 'world building', pero yo lo consideraria como un detrimento para la historia.Pero bueno, al final y al cabo, es una buena historia; no se puede describir este libro como un fracaso porque ciertamente no lo es, pero tampoco se puede llamar un exito revolucionaro porque simplemente -en mis ojos- es otra historia de muchas otras. Pero si como yo, buscas estudiar un poco mas el estilo de Garcia Marquez este es un excelente ejemplo. Recomiendo totalmente este libro para todo fan de este autor. Es una gran obra de un aun gran autor.Otra cosa: me encanta la portada, la presentacion del libro, y la calidad. La textura del libro es impresionante.Espero que esto te ayude :)
This is my favorite of Marquez' books--poignant, brutally real,and somehow hopeful. Not since Jane Austin has an author explored the concept of love to this depth: the heart fluttering illusions of youth, the psychotic obsessions of unrequited love, the wild abandon of carnal pleasure, and the sweet affection of old age.Marquez jumps around in time as usual, and if this bothers you he's not for you. Time doesn't exist in his world. Also true to his style, he discloses the end at the beginning, or most of the end. I think that's why I like this novel the most. It holds some surprises.Marquez has created a long, detailed account of a life from young adulthood to old age. The foreplay goes on forever so that you want to say "Enough already!" But the ending satisfies.
Uno de mis libros favoritas leído de una manera casi impecable. Le dí cuatro estrellas por una sola razón, el lector hace la voz ronca y le pone efecto cuando lee líneas de personajes masculinos, pero sus voces femeninas con efectos pueden mejorar. Se puede mejorar? si, sin embargo, para mi es un excelente acompañante de viaje ya que son 16 horas de puro realismo mágico en su máxima expresión.
How can anyone criticize this author. It is amazing. Not so many characters to get you lost like 100 Years of Solitude. Your Spanish must be fairly high level to read it without a dictionary handy. The only thing I didn't like was the virulent sexism of 2 of the main characters. It's really over the top and kind of vicarious.
Es la novela que mas me ha gustado de GarcÃa Márquez, tiene una historia de amor que sigue vivo a traves de los años y en el camino s muestra como los personajes van aprendiendo lo que es la vida. Tiene cientos de frases y situaciones que te hacen verte reflejado y que hacen que esta novela sea una historia de vida.Además de la historia la forma en la cual se cuenta la historia hace que uno se quede hipnotizado con la historia y no pare hasta terminar la lectura. En mi opinión es la mejor novela de Gabo, incluso mejor que "Cien años de Soledad".
Hermosa y maravillosa historia de amor escrita por el gran GarcÃa Marquez. Es cierto que en ocasiones se vuelve tedioso y tiene muchas escenas de relleno pero aún asà es maravilloso y perfectamente escrito. Si te gustan las historias de amor y las novelas de Gabriel GarcÃa Marquez este libro es para ti. Me llegó en perfectas condiciones.

I read the spanish version of the book to get a better feel for the story in the original language. I found myself referring to my spanish/english dictionary at times, but in the end I was rewarded with a great story. If you're hispanic or can understand the spanish language, read El Amor en los Tiempos del Colera- its more romantic in spanish. The story was interesting, gripping until the end! I just loved it! The characters come to life- with faults and everything -they're not perfect or heroic like in other love stories, they're very real especially the main characters Fermina and Florentino. As you may or may not know- the story is about two people who meet as youngsters and fall in love but because of certain circumbstances don't end up together. The girl, Fermina, marries a rich doctor. Florentino is left depressed and living a half life just waiting until Fermina is free once again. I found myself rooting for them all throughout the book. So if you're looking for a realistic, unpredictable love story - get this book and become another fan of the great Garbriel Garcia Marquez.

This book is full of vague quotes from admissions officers, such as we are looking for compassionate, motivated, and passionate students. Did not learn anything new from this book. I was hoping to gain some insights into more particular things that interviewers look for during interviews. I was hoping to find ideas for how to prepare for traditional interviews. This book accomplished neither of those goals. Don't waste your money on this.
This book is gonna make you paranoid, just read the chapter where it says that you gotta be nice to hotel receptionists cause they can be contacted by the medical school. I try to be nice to everyone around me, but this is some 1984 Big Brother stuff ( which says a lot given I've spent most of my life in Russia).Otherwise, not a bad book. Got some good tips out of it. And it is quite short. Will take you couple of hours to finish it.
I am a health communication professor and I work closely with the university's premed program. I sometimes do trainings prepping the students for their med school interviews and many of my students have been successfully admitted to med school. I have found this book, along with Multiple Mini Interview (MMI): Winning Strategies from Admissions Faculty to be the 2 essential books of prepping for med school. The best thing you can do for yourself is buying these 2 books, reading them thoroughly, and practicing more than once. Start with the general one, and spend some serious time on it. Don't skip the 'why do you want to be a doctor' and 'what is professionalism' sections, they are gold! Then if you are informed that you will have an MMI, go ahead and read the other one. If you won't have an MMI, I would still consider browsing through it because it gives you interesting ethical questions to think on, which should get your medical communication juices flowing and ready for an interview!As someone who helps train prospective med school students, I want to emphasize that whatever book you buy, you need to practice. Practice out loud and hopefully to another person who is listening to you and providing feedback.
I HIGHLY recommend this book for all medical school applicants. It is well researched and very comprehensive. I found it to be much more helpful than any of the other books or websites that I studied in preparation for my interviews. The authors obviously put a lot of work into the book-I was amazed at the depth and breadth of the author's research. The authors almost continuously cite medical school admissions committees as their source of information. The Medical School Interview covers everything you need to do after being invited to interview, from interview preparation to interview day and beyond. It includes common interview questions and also discusses the different types of interview formats. Most importantly, there is an emphasis on making your answers unique; there are a lot of highly qualified applicants out there, so making your answers distinct and memorable is critical.The book serves as a companion to several other medical school preparation services provided by the authors. After I read the book, I decided to sign up for a mock interview session with one of the authors, Dr. Desai. Dr. Desai came to the session much more prepared than I expected, he had researched the schools I was preparing to interview at and had studied my application material. I felt much more confident going into my interviews after my prep session with Dr. Desai.In short, definitely purchase the book before you begin interviewing for medical schools. And, seriously consider utilizing the other services and books the authors offer. This book and Dr. Desai gave me the confidence and clarity I needed going into my medical school interview. I had 2 MMI and one classical style interview. I can almost honestly say that I would not have gotten in without the advice. Plain and simple the guy knows what he is talking about from years of experience one being on an admissions committee, two speaking personally with other admissions committee members at numerous schools and getting the inside scoop on what they are looking for and what makes them tick, and third speaking and working with soo many other applicants just like you, polishing their interview styles and seeing what succeeds and what does not first hand. Plain and simple it would be unwise to go into your interview without tapping into this book or contacting Dr. Desai himself. Thank you Dr. Desai.
I thought this was an okay. It had a handful of decent tips, but a lot of the information there was obvious. For premeds prepping for interviews, the best thing I'd recommend is doing a mock-interview with someone from your school if you can and go through your answers and how you can improve them. Also, looking at SDN for what are typical questions that pop up and prepare how you'd answer.
