It was a comprehensive and detailed explanation on anti-aging skincare. I learn a lot and have taken many of the doctors recommendations. The book starts you on an expedition with many scientists who went through a exploration journey into the Quantum world, and their real struggle to unravel the mystery of Existence and unblock the secrets of the Neutrino. Large Mines filled with liquid chlorine detergents, Nuclear Reactors, Solar Activity. This book reads like a detective story, each chapter stirring you up for the next. Wonderful.
Having spent more than a couple of decades in the Nuclear Industry long ago, I have always been fascinated by Nuclear Physics but had not been keeping up with progress in particle physics for many years. I was intrigued when I saw the title on Amazon and the reviews. I'll admit that I have always been fascinated by the mystery of neutrinos. My first encounter was with how neutrinos fit in with Reactor Physics in the Navy Nuclear program as a reactor operator. I was fascinated that we lose about 10 MEV of energy per fission in a reactor to neutrinos out of about 200 MEV total energy. The energy is just gone, not even detectable with any instrumentation (except maybe in an atom smasher lab).I recall reading about some of the early work in a Scientific American article of trying to capture neutrinos from the Sun in a big tank of Carbon Tetrachloride deep in a mine back in the late 70's or early 80's. I also recall the levels of capture were much lower than expected and marveled at the concept of isolating a few atoms affected by a neutrino reaction out of several hundred thousand gallons of fluid. I believe the estimate in that article was that 97% of all neutrinos released in the center of the sun reached the surface of the sun without any interaction with matter at all. Now, name another particle that can top that! This book details the history of these experiments and all the mysterious outcomes and how they were resolved.One of the difficulties encountered was to overcome the momentum of "wisdom" about the neutrino counts from the sun before it was realized that neutrinos have a personality disorder and may oscillate between types since they have mass, albeit extremely small even compared to an electron. The evolution of detecting neutrinos and measuring their properties is fascinating as a subject of it's own.If you have ever cared about neutrinos in any way, this book is a must read. The history of this 50 year plus investigation is clearly explained, with the horrendous trials and tribulations that go with it. I am absolutely amazed at what conclusions were reached by 2001. The idea of neutrino astronomy blows me away, the concept that our continuous monitoring of neutrinos from the Sun yield real time information from neutrinos about the current status at the center of the sun. The continued information being captured by these buried instruments regarding incoming cosmic rays interacting with our atmosphere to produce various energy levels of neutrinos. The ability to confirm theories of what happens in a super nova from the 1987 interception of neutrinos.I was delighted with the way the book is written for the most part, and truly appreciated the wealth of understanding and insight of neutrinos that the book provided in addition to the historical information on this subject. It gives closure on some of the many questions I had on neutrinos and how they relate to other areas of the current state of quantum mechanics and cosmology.

Eventhough it looks like the Neutrino family will not explain dark matter by it's self, the fact that they have a vanishing massand change their colors on the fly promises hints about what's next beyond the Standard theory. Since the Neutrino'simportance is just beginning to be understood, no one wants to be left in the dark. You'll find the story here all in oneplace.
After the OPERA claims at CERN that neutrinos were traveling slightly faster than light, like everyone else, I wanted to learn more about the mysterious particles. After a lot of looking around, I discovered Frank Close's wonderful book. It contains the best history I have ever read of a narrow, overlooked specialty in physics.After reading this book, I immediately purchased two other books by him: The Infinity Puzzle: Quantum Field Theory and the Hunt for an Orderly Universe and Nothing: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions). I am currently reading these and learning a lot. I'm really glad I obtained all three of these books.
Close writes well and clearly and makes complex ideas understandable for non-physicists. The history of the neutrino is absolutely fascinating. Ironically, while I was in the middle of this book, CERN announced that it thinks it's determined that neutrinos move faster than the speed of light. If this proves out, then quantum mechanics, E=MC2, and other fundamentals of our physics lives have just been tossed out the window. Stay tuned!I liked this book so much, both in content and writing, I bought his next one.
Neutrino is the biography of a sub-atomic particle that until recently, many people did not even think existed. The author weaves a masterful tale of the science and history of the neutrino - from its race from the heart of the sun to its capture in the depths of an abandon mine. Definitely a must read for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of our universe and the basis of atomic particles.

Just finished Neutrino and was very impressed. Total "thumbs up"! Frank Close writes in an historical account that through the recitation provides and encapsulated quick course on the subject that covers the material in such a way that you have an understanding of the concrete physics of the subject in a graded fashion that compresses nearly a hundred years of scientific struggle into a concise account that leaves one feeling they have a good understanding of both the history and the subject. On top of that Close has a droll sense of humor that had me laughing out loud at times. Great writer!

This book first caught our eyes last Christmas but it was at a higher price in the store we were in so I decided to buy it on Amazon. However, I had forgotten about this book until recently and went ahead and bought it for our 3-year-olds birthday.It is a very fun book and I was excited to get it for her. My husband had a good time reading it to her as well. I think all three of our children will really enjoy this book.The illustrations and pictures are awesome. They are very colorful and eye-catching.I definitely recommend this book if you are seeking something fun and different for your children to enjoy reading.
I bought four copies...this book is brilliantly designed...my friends kids loved them as did they.This will be my go to book to order for young lads and lasses. Excited to see what this couple produces next!In fact, I kept a copy for myself. This is enjoyable for adults as well. Great distraction at work for the team!
Strongly recommend. This book had mom and dad both laughing...even on the forth and fifth reading the first day we got it. The creators did an awesome job of staging the 'incidents' throughout the book, even now, after countless readings I still seem to find some little detail that I had either missed or forgotten from before. In fact, I think I am going to go read it now. Is it bad parenting to wake a sleeping child to read them a book that I want to read?? Don't judge me! I am not going to wake her, I am going to sit on the couch and read it myself...and I am probably going to giggle out loud.
I bought this book for my 5 year old grandson and we were very excited to read about the dinosaurs adventures. However, the print is smaller that "the small print" in a contract! It was crazy! My daughter teased me about needing my glasses and so she took over the story telling - and she was having a hard time reading the super Small print, too. Needless to say, this book is on the shelf, unread. The next two dinosaur books by the same author were cute and the font was fine and we enjoyed them. Don't bother purchasing until they fix the print in book one.
This is one of my favorite books! I bought a copy for my 3 year olds birthday who loves dinosaurs, and he loved it. I do storytelling at a library and stumbled across the book when it was added to the collection and fell in love. The book is simple but so much fun.
The excuse I used to buy this book was that it was for my grand-niece, but it was really for me. I love what this couple did for their children, and I love following them on Facebook during November, when we all get to share in the magic. It's a wonderful book, it's a genius idea, and the MOST wonderful thing about it is that now there are people ALL OVER THE WORLD who are doing it for their children, and sharing it with everyone. It brings back the magical joy of childhood to even us old geezers.
I caught the whole Dinovember event on-line back when it started, and the idea was fabulous. SO GLAD they put out a picture book so you can see these dinosaurs again and again! I HIGHLY recommend this as just pure fun. Kids will love it. I bought the hardcover as a gift and kept it for *myself*. LOL Will buy another copy for my nephew when his birthday rolls around. Too adorable!
This is a really cute book. I chose this to read to my son's kindergarten class and gave them all little bags of dinosaurs. They loved this book, it was really fun and playful and perfect for their age.

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is one of the best books we've read in the Encounter the Saints series. We knew very little about this saint before reading it, so it was a treasure to learn so much about him. The book follows his life from his birth until his death, detailing important events from childhood to young adulthood. Our favorite parts were his interactions with his family and the sacrifices he made for them. This amazing saint was not only an incredible sportsman, but carved out time DAILY to pray and visit the poor. The author makes Bl. Pier Giorgio come alive as someone whom you would be friends with in real life and indeed, he is now our true friend in Heaven. This book works well as a read-aloud; I read it aloud to my children. They couldn't wait for the next chapter!
This book fits a perfect bill of a love-hate relationship. There are things I absolutely LOVE about the book, and several things that I hated.First off, the book, overall, has an excellent message which was thought provoking even to me as an adult: How we really ought to love more deeply and take care of those around us, especially the poor. Namely, to have charity as Christ would. So that is the great thing about the book that I absolutely love; you can rise to the book and come away from it inspired to do more. It had a great effect on me, and inspired me to look into the life of Frassati even more.But the negative aspect of it I could have done without. My first pet peeve was when the book stated that the Frassati children were lonely BECAUSE they were taught at home and were not allowed to go to school. Okay, so as a homeschooler that really irritated me. It irritated me even further when I researched the saint and I couldn't find anything in regards to them not having friends at a young age because they were homeschooled... rather it was the parents that didn't want them having outside friends that was the problem. Minor thing, a little white out took care of that! LOLBut the whole middle section of the book seemed to pit Frassati against his parents, left and right. Now I know that his parents were well-known to be harsh and he grew up in a hard family. However, it seemed there should have been lots of things you could have focused on in a children's book... and this would be at the very bottom of my list to include, or at least highlight the obedience of Frassati to his parents rather than how wrong they constantly were. After all, especially in a Catholic book, children should be ENCOURAGED to be obedient... this commandment of God and Church is difficult for them and thus I don't appreciate it when a book encourages their sinful nature rather than their good. So keep this in mind when you are considering the book!Overall, I still think it is an excellent book. I just had to heavily edit parts of it so the kids can get an excellent story without the negative. Since this wasn't a Jr. High or High school book, they really should have been more careful in what they put in it. However, I still have to recommend the book, especially with supervision and reading it with them, it would be a great book to have on hand.Boys in particular should really love the story of Blsd. Frassati. He had a very active life and was quite the young man!
This was the second book about Pier Giorgio Frassati that I have read this year. The other was Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati: An Ordinary Christian by Maria Amata Di Lorenzo. Both are excellent reads but there were a few stories in this book written for children that really inspired me and my son. My family and I love this series. And the example of Pier Giorgio is an incredible story of faith and service. And his live serves as an example to us all.As a family we loved this series and this specific book. The Encounter the Saints Series, from Pauline Books and Media, and consider them excellent reads. The series is written for younger readers, but they are so well written it can be appreciated by anyone who wants to grow in knowledge of a specific saint or learn from the examples of the 37 saints in the series to date. I really enjoy reading these books with my children, but need to be upfront and say I am well ahead of them in working my way through the series because I just cannot put them down. I am hoping to read more about this saint and loved this volume. There are currently 37 books in this series, including The Saints Pray for Us. I have read a number of these books on my own and also about half of them with my children. My oldest who is 11 can read them to us. She has read them to me and also helped me read them to the younger children. My son who is 9 can read them with some help on the more difficult words, but he really enjoys just listening to these powerful stories. My youngest who is 6 loved the story, and while reading this one held her pink play sword. This book is part of the Encounter the Saints Series; from Pauline Books and Media, and this book is an incredible read as is the entire series! Our family gives them five stars.
