This book is such a good text when working toward the CAPM or PMP. The PMBOK is great, but more of a reference point to me. This book is an easy read and gives you an easier read. I am thankful that I read this book because I passed my CAPM on the first try! Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to learn on their own or wanting something to make a PM class a little easier.Note: this book corresponds and references the PMBOK.
The content is pretty good. Decent real life examples. I love XKCD comics but it feels forced having them as cutesy "examples" in this book. I find the typos and inconsistencies very distracting and frustrating. Feels like they didn't have a professional copyeditor proofread the final copy.
The book came in perfect condition. I bought it used, but it looks like it is brand spanking new!

The traveler is a senator from a southern state. The senator is obnoxious and thinks of himself as an expert on the subject of black people. The porter however is very kind, polite, and educates him on the various topics dealing with the plight and success of black people. He quotes various authors and makes sure he consults his notes for authenticity. This was such a very wonderful book and it shows as human beings we are all God's children. How the environment we live in can contribute to situations one may find himself and the cruelty we often afflict on one another all because of the color of ones skin. If you never read another book please I implore you to read this great book by an author of such gifted writing skills. I highly recommend the reading of this book! You won't be sorry...

I was pleased with the story...while rather staged and everything had to fall in place for our conductor to somehow have his answers and proof all stored nicely in a hand written notebook as if he had wikipedia at his fingertips....that said; the facts shared here seemed more believable than the dribble I've been taught as a white man of 51. I don't believe individuals change their opinions regarding racism...once a racist...always a racist, no matter who is doing the hating. The book is worth reading and...it was enjoyable.
Wonderful read for anyone with an open mind to learn a broader perspective of U.S. American history. Thin book, but I spent a lot of time researching some of the references.
This is my first piece of literature this author, but it won't be the last. I liked that this story was staged as a debate of sorts and really incited personal thoughts on issues. This book was written over a hundred years ago, but still has much application today. It really puts America's progress over that time period in perspective.I also appreciated the mention of authors and literature throughout the story line. Most of them were added to !y list.
I happened upon this book accidentally and I will forever be grateful to Kindle for suggesting it. I am a person who has lived all over this country from top to bottom,easy to west and am fairly educated. I possess a BS, M. ed. and a JD. I cannot remember reading a more articulate and insightful evaluation of race in America in such a concise manner. If you overlay the arguments and premises of the author to today's atmosphere in the contentious and rabid divisions of the greatest democracy in the world, it should satisfy your need to be afraid of the stagnation and decline of the empire. I agree with the review that suggested this book be mandatory reading in every school. If we truly want to continue as the greatest democracy of our era is it not time to truly honor and respect the greatest document ever written...The Declaration of independence...Our country has never embraced the true meaning of those words by continuing the most heinous crime against humanity. The continuation of racial hatred and persecution in the name of justice. The world is watching and for you religious types, the creator is too!
This book is very powerful and it has a great story to share .you learn how racist behavior is so unnecessary but just being human is enough

What an amazing story of an amazing man! I ordered the original paperback of the adult version, but then one of my boys wanted to read the kids version, so I got this one on Kindle. I began reading it myself, and finished it in one night! (This would be written for approximately 5th - 9th graders, in my opinion.) The book is written on the level for kids, but also gives all relevant information in order to inspire them to do great things someday.Dr. Carson had absolutely nothing handed to him. Everything he got was worked for--HARD. He got past racial bigotry without a complaint. He rose above poverty and struggling in school. He proved that if you really want something, you CAN get it, here in America. His mother was also a wonderful example to her sons and taught them right.This book is also a testimony of what God can do through a person who gives themselves to Him. Not only is he a man of character, but he is also a man of faith.I highly recommend this book as one that should be read by EVERY child in America, and I cannot wait to get my own version of the book!
I ordered this book last night and didn't sleep until I had finished it. This man, Ben Carson, is wholly dedicated to doing whatever he is led to, with guidance and dependence on God. That's how he was raised out of poverty, being raised by a single mother. That's how he worked to become THE BEST surgeon, separating conjoined twins in many countries around the world. His experience assembling huge teams for such surgeries proves his ability to lead, and to think outside the box. Heck, to him there is NO BOX!I wanted to know what all the buzz was about him winning two straw polls and coming in second in a third. I believe his credibility is substantiated by his story, as evidenced to me through this very captivating and enthrallling book. If he doesn't have expertise., he's humble enough to find that knowledge and to follow it.
One reviewer said he/she wouldn't send it to the grandchildren because of the discussion of racism this man faced as a child. That's too bad. I sent this book to five grandchildren so far. I'm not proud of America's racist past nor that in the present. However, if we don't face it, we will never overcome it. But this book has so many positive ideas to give to our children: overcoming obstacles through hard work, rising above unfairness and injustice, overcoming personal shortcomings, choosing gentleness instead of violence, success through hard work and tenacity, and making do with the resources available while working to increase these. What a great example this man is for our children (and us.)
I am reading this to my boys, ages 9 and 11. Amazing how into it they are! They love it! Each night I read about 2 short chapters to them and we're having great conversations about what it takes to get ahead in life, about racism, and about faith. All of his stories are simple and easy to imagine. He doesn't make any bizarre claims like CNN is accusing him of these days. I did many of the things he talks about when I was a kid!Another thing I like is how he describes learning and improving neurosurgery. I've had a microvascular decompression of the trigeminal nerve so I've done some study on brain surgery techniques (like using imaging to locate foramen's oval). Dr. Carson is the real deal. He's a good man who rejected a victim's mentality and embraced an active approach to improving his life and achieving the American Dream!
My kids LOVED this book! Well written and easy to understand for children. I read the version for adults and it was so great because my kids and I were able to have in depth discussions about this book. An amazing story, with a positive message of how with hard work and perseverance, one CAN overcome just about any obstacle to fulfill their dreams! I honestly think everyone in America needs to read this book!
Got this book for my 11 y/o son and 10 y/o nephew for their quarterly book report. Both boys loved the book and couldn't stop talking about it. They had both wached the movie and said this book "was waaaay better than the movie." It's funny to hear two little kids quote a medical book again and again. They both found the book to be funny, inspirational, easy to read and informational. It's hard to find books that meet all these levels so I was thrilled and would definately buy this again as gifts for other young readers.
My son and I have been reading this book together. He is 11, and even though when I first told him he would have to read it there was the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth he has really liked it and has gone ahead of me and reads on his own. It's good for adults too who want the abbreviated version of his life story without reading the adult version.
This is the best book I have read in a very long time. It is very easy to read and understand......until they get into all the medical terms, which isn't very much. More people need to read this book to understand what his life is all about, his failures as a child and many successes as an adult. It is a "Can't put down" book!!!
I read this book with my 9 year old son. It was fascinating, exciting and so inspirational. It changed my sons opinion about reading and inspired him to become a better student. It encouraged us and reaffirmed our faith in God and his purpose for each of us! We loved it!
