Elie Wiesel is great; I want to read more of his work
I don't usually agree with Elie Weisel - and I don't think he really cares if I do - but he always makes me stop and think. As a protestant, I have never heard of about half of these characters but Weisel discusses them so interestingly that it was not a problem.
There are three major sections to this work. In the first Wiesel tells the stories of Biblical figures, Noah Jepthah and his daughter Ruth Solomon Ezekiel Daniel Ezra and Nehemiah Esther. In the second section he writes about Taludic figures, the houses of Hillel and Shammai, Hanina Ben Dosa, Elezar ben Azaryah, Rabbi Ishmael, Rabbi Akiba,Ben Azzai and Ben Zoma, Eilsha Ben Abouya Rabbi Hananiah ben Teradyon Rabbi Meir and Brurya, Rabbi Shimon Bar yohai and his son, Rabbi Zeira, Rav and Shmuel. in the final section he writes of hasidic masters, the Shpoler Zeide, the Apter Rebbe, Rabbi Avraham the Angel, Kotze and Iabitze, the Ostrowtzer.The writing is informed with a true love and feelling for the Tradition.It is also infirmed by the inquiring questioning spirit of Wiesel who challenges and questions as he describes. Recomiendo este libro, lo malo es que la mayoría de los dentistas en mi ciudad no creen que las amalgamas causen micro intoxicación por mercurio. Yo me hice un estudio de sangre y efectivamente, éste arrojó que tengo mercurio en la sangre. Actualmente tengo 6 amalgamas metálicas y aún no encuentro un dentista que esté sensible al tema. What an absolutely delightful "assortment of rhyme!" These poems are creative, whimsical, and magical! The catchy titles and themes prompted giggles and lively discussion from my three kids, and I had as much fun as they did. "Mister E" and "A Girl Named Ella Minnow" are fun favorites, while "The House" will touch any mama's heart. And "Find Your Thing" and "This is Not the End" will motivate and inspire kids of all ages. This little treasure has it all!
As an elementary school librarian I can tell you all ages will love these poems. Lyrical, catchy rhyming and a little lesson within make it the kind of poems that are fun to read, especially out loud to little and not so little kids!
I love this book! I bought it to read with my girlfriend and our son (5 years old) and daughter (8 years old). My girlfriend and daughter love “Dear Mac,†while our son loves the title-inspiring “The Gumball Lottery.†As for me, I love “When The Sun Goes Down At The Zooâ€! We haven’t finished all of them yet, but are looking forward to reading more of them each night at bedtime.
So creative!! The poems are adorable and incorporate life lessons about confidence and uniqueness. The illustrations are just as cute! My kids love it but I found myself chucking just as much as they did. A must have for children, but adults too.
Recommended to me after I bought a Silverstein classic. Worth the investment. May not be Shel but this is a lot of fun for the kids! I recommend it for a quick, fun read with the grands over three or four nights.
The Gumball Lottery was an instant favorite for my family, and especially the kids! They wanted to keep reading more each night. The poems are sweet and packed with great lessons, and the illustrations are a perfect fit! Great collections of children's poetry are tough to find, and this one is a true gem!
