I purchased this book already knowing that my 2.5yo daughter loves the story. The presence of plot alone sets it apart from so many other board books that rely mostly on catchy rhymes and picture identification. And the fact that a small child, Harold, creates his own adventure with a simple crayon, ultimately solving his own problem, is empowering. My daughter loves to flip through the pages of the paperback version of Harold and the Purple Crayon and tell her own version of the tale. The story sparks her imagination and transforms her into a storyteller.So I do recommend Harold and the Purple Crayon, BUT I suggest purchasing it in a different format. For one thing, this edition has printing flaws. The page spread where Harold draws a boat is repeated, and in an order that disrupts the narrative sequence (see images). For another thing, the layout in the board book is condensed: some images are placed side by side that would otherwise be separated by a page turn. This effectively decreases the suspense at times. For example, in the paperback version, readers see Harold fall off a mountain and don't know how he will rescue himself until they turn the page. Not so in the board book, where both the fall and rescue occur on the same page. Suspense is disrupted elsewhere as well.Bottom Line: I recommend this child-empowering story but not in the board book format.
This was a great imaginative picture book, one of those books that definitely is made for young children but can still spark the imagination of an adult. Remembering this book from my own childhood, I got it to read to my nieces and nephews. They lived it as much as I had done when I was little.The kindle version was a slightly awkward view showing two pages at once which made each page rather small on my screen, but then this allowed some of the two page images to be viewed all at once. I would recommend getting this book as a physical copy.
I loved this book from my childhood so I ordered the 60th edition for my daughter. One of the pages is printed upside down. It's in order and perfectly readable but I feel disappointed.

I won't bother going in to the story of Harold and the Purple Crayon, as I'm certain almost anybody considering this purchase grew up with the book at one time or another.However, I did want to offer this suggestion to everyone: spend the extra money on the hardcover edition.I may have set my expectations a bit high, but since the paperback price was relatively expensive (costing 30 - 50% more than comparable paperbacks) and touted as the 50th Anniversary Edition, I thought it would be "nice". However, I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the construction quality.Unless you're giving it to a teenager or adult as a keepsake type of gift, the paperback isn't going to stand up against an age-appropriate child, or to time itself. If I hadn't bought it as part of the 4-for-3 promotion, I'd almost certainly exchange it for the hardcover.

The illustrations, in purple (duh!), are thick, crayon-like line drawings that are expressive and elegant in their simplicity.More than anything, the story is about the power and joy of a life of the imagination. It's a book a child can hear over and over again that can become both a trusted friend and a comfortable entrance into the land of dreams.So read it to a beloved child in your life. Caveat: I’ve noticed that Amazon book reviews seem not to be tied to a specific edition of a book; rather, the same reviews will often appear for every edition of a particular title. My complaints about this book apply only to the specific edition I got from Amazon, not to Einstein’s text in general. The edition I have lacks any publication information apart from the fact that it was printed in San Bernardino, CA, on 15 July 2014. Other than that, there is nothing anywhere in the book that identifies the publisher. The ISBN is 9781619491502, and a quick Google search reveals that the publisher is “Empire Books,†though the publisher’s name appears nowhere on or in the book itself (and frankly, I don’t blame them for not wanting to take credit for this mess). Nonetheless, it is the edition with a drawing of Einstein’s face on the cover, with the title above the drawing and the subtitle and author’s name below it.Einstein’s monograph on the theory of relativity is simply brilliant, of course, and I wouldn’t presume to critique his work. But “Empire Books,†or whatever fly-by-night publisher was responsible for this particular edition of the book, was inexcusably negligent. The edition that I got from Amazon is simply riddled with typographical and formatting errors, which in some places are so bad that they make it difficult to follow the text. I know nothing about who is behind “Empire Books,†but I strongly suspect that some clever young entrepreneur with access to a printing press thought that an easy way to make a quick buck would be to print and sell new editions of books that were in the public domain. I have no problem with this business model in principle — I might even consider doing it myself if I owned a printing press. My complaint is with the poor quality control. If you’re going to go into the publishing business, in my opinion, you have an obligation to your customers to make sure that the books you print are properly formatted and have been proofread at least well enough to catch glaring mistakes. You can’t just download a text file from Project Gutenberg or some similar site and print it out as is, never even bothering to check it for errors. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this edition of Einstein’s excellent book to anyone. Find one from a more reliable publisher.
This book is a ripoff, don't buy it! The "publisher", Methuem & Co. Ltd., downloaded some public domain copy of Einstein's early works and printed it as is, without any corrections or editing. It's an easy way to make money but of little value to the reader. In the "book" the equations that appear in the text were typed in, without subscripts and super scripts. Some of highlighted equations were also typed in with a typewriter. The photo on the front cover is distorted and uncorrected. There are typing mistakes, spelling mistakes, and editing mistakes throughout the document. Instead of a table of contents there is a listing of the various sections of Einstein's writings. There are no chapter numbers or page numbers! And of course no index. In reading this document it appears that this is a collection of Einstein's early notes and essays that were never sent to a publisher. Save your money and find a properly published copy of Einstein's works.
This book published by Ancient Wisdom Publications (December 17, 2010), has not been proof-read by anyone with knowledge of mathematics. It is riddled with errors and typos in equations throughout the entire book such that it is useless for anyone who wishes to understand the subject. I was able to correct many of the math errors through my own derivations, but there are many more likely errors for which the context does not provide sufficient information to make corrections, so this book should not be purchased by anyone.
You would think, for the sake of credibility alone, that a publisher would familiarize themselves with the work they are publishing. First, a synopsis on the back of the volume states that Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work on relativity; he was, however, awarded the prize for his work on the photoelectric effect, NOT relativity. Second, the description of the book's content on Amazon follows Einstein's preface where he states "...are interested in the theory, but are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics." They neglected to include the following "...presumes a standard education to that of a university matriculation examination." I had two semesters of college calculus and, believe me, I would otherwise have been at a serious disadvantage in any effort to grasp even a cursory understanding the book's content.
After reading Walter Isaacson's brilliant biography, "Einstein" and finally coming away with an understanding of Einstein's theories, I felt I could make the leap and actually attempt to read something written by the most famous genius of the twentieth century whose theories would transform science and the world.I chose Einstein's, "Relativity: The Special and General Theory." The book was written by Einstein so that the average person, who was not a physicist or mathematician, but was interested in his "theory of relativity" could easily understand it in layman's terms. Well, except for the portions of the book that used mundane objects such as a train, an embankment, Times Square or a clock to describe the most famous theory of all time, the rest of the book (a good 60 percent) was incomprehensible to me. It could have just as well been written in Latin.I strongly recommend that unless you have a scientific background, you should not start off by reading this book if you are at all interested in understanding the mind and theories of this, undeniable, genius. I recommend the Isaacson's book I mentioned above as a good starting point.Not to be deter, I will nevertheless continue my interest in physics and when I have the time and patience I will start reading books about Galileo and Newton's theories, so much seems to have originated from their work. They are constantly mentioned throughout by Einstein.I

Dover's Dore Bible Illustrations consists of a 5 page introduction, 3 pages for the list of plates, and 241 full page engravings with the title and excerpt of the biblical passage the image represents. Most images are about 8"x10". The old testament, new testament and some of the apocryphal books are represented (in all, 39 books).The reproduction quality is excellent. Upon close inspection, minute artifacts can be seen in most of the engravings. Most often they are tiny white dots in otherwise dark spaces. However, with the extraordinary density of fine lines engraved in every image, flawless pressings may have been nearly impossible. I recommend studying this book with a large magnifying glass. The naked eye doesn't do justice to the almost superhuman effort that went into the artwork. Every plate bears the monogram of both Dore and an assistant, and he clearly needed help to complete the book. Just imagining what it took to finish the book gives me carpal tunnel.Every image is easily readable. Contrast is generally in the medium-high range, and all planes are well-defined. Many plates contain hundreds, even thousands of figures, and creating such large-scale images coherently is a feat in itself. The style Dore employs in his Bible scenes is atypical of the medium. He engraves with a woodcutter's sensibility, giving this book a distinct look. With the exception of a few uses of stippling, every plate consists only of contouring lines of varying density. True white or black spaces are practically nowhere to be found in the entire set; the hand of the artist can be seen everywhere. No shortcuts were taken, and Dore seems to say with his technique that the subject matter is important enough to demand great dedication.After an avalanche of praise, I should note that the book isn't above reproach. Plate 103 shows some highly questionable-looking bears, plate 38 shows a camel that is wildly out of proportion, and plate 14 shows some awkwardly rendered figures. But there's another problem that pervades the series, and that's a lack of complexity. There's not much in the way of symbolism or imagination, and there are no close ups. This is a macroscopic, bird's-eye view of the Bible that's more about events than people, more about style than substance. Dore doesn't seem to have that spark of insight that defines the devotional masterpieces of Durer, da Vinci, Rembrandt, Bernini, Caravaggio, Michelangeo, Holbein, Rubens, Bosch, etc. That said, the book as a whole is immense and impressive, and very well-reproduced by Dover. Highly recommended to anyone interested in art and religion.
For five measly bucks you get all of Doré's biblical illustration that were in the Doré's Bible of the late 1800s. The pictures take up a whole page and sometimes two. Yeah some of the prints are a tad poor but not ad bad as people made it out. These are not original prints and only a baboon would compare it to an original. But you get a lot of pretty good quality prints for ad much as a happy meal would cost. So its well worth the money. I mean if it were like $500 then yeah sure I'd be pretty red in the face but its only $5. If you want to see all of Doré's bible prints then get it. If your a More rare prints collector, what are doing here? Go out and hunt for those rare copies and quit trying to cheat.
The art work itself is great, but the Kindle version has the description of each work on the next page from the work engraving itself, with the next engraving. One would hope that this could be easily remedied and and update made available.
Lots and lots of artistic influences in this little beauty; from the creative mind of Paul Gustav Dore. His biblical images are reminiscence of Cecil B. De Mill's "TEN COMMANDMENTS" I wouldn't be surprised to know that; they are DeMills' inspirations. As yet I have no proof. Even while I have seen both and remain convinced of inspiration Via Dore.

It is amazing how Dore was able to capture the spiritual essence of the Bible's stories. Each depiction offers a scene where words are no longer necessary. This is a wonderful collection for any one with an interest in art, religious or otherwise.

Art and presentation of this book is absolutely amazing. However I cant say the same for how this book was delivered to me. The envelope was already open when I checked my mail box. Then upon looking over the book the top right corner appears to have been folded hard. The cover and more then half the pages have this awful crease. Again the book is a 5/5 but for how this ended up in my hands is pretty upsetting.

This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter. I’ve been in the industry for some time; personally, this is one of the few books I would suggest to those interested in understanding the basics of blockchains and bitcoin. Antony helps us clearly understand the theme, concisely describing the technology in a logical way, clearly presenting the concepts, and on top of that how everything fits together. Unlike Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas M. Antonopoulos, which definitely is a book for people who already have a programming background, interestingly The Basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains can be appreciated by readers with different backgrounds. It is an enjoyable and easy reading although a comprehensive exposure to bitcoin and blockchains.As mentioned on the back cover, this book is a crash course in money, cryptocurrencies, initial coin offerings (ICO) and enterprise blockchains. As the one responsible for Cash and CBDC strategy at R3, not surprisingly, Antony teaches us everything we have to know from historical facts, physical and digital money, through a smooth introduction to cryptography (probably the most understandable explanation about the mechanics of Proof-of-Work), the emergence of cryptocurrencies and digital tokens to the latest thinking about the technology adoption by enterprises. By and large a delightful read for anyone who wants to understand everything about bitcoins and blockchains.
I am a long-term reader of Antony's "Bits on Blocks" which is one of the very few references written in a way that can be appreciated by readers with different technical backgrounds. I always recommend my peers to read his blog to build a solid foundation before on boarding their crypto journey. I am a bit surprised that Antony doesn’t simply recycle his blog for this book but actually puts in time and effort to restructure the content and the delivery of the concept (and add in new stuff like "Money" and "Digital Money" as the appetizer). I highly recommend this book for those who want to know the truth of bitcoin and blockchain. The analogy I can make is that if you want to understand derivatives, you read "Options, Futures and Derivatives" by John Hull; likewise for crytocurrencies and blockchain technologies, "The Basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains" by Antony Lewis.
Really good balance between ease of reading and just enough substance and depth to allow you to understand the basics of blockchain and bitcoin. The book takes a methodical and structured approach which helped me build understanding on the topic step-by-step. It is hard to find trusthworthy and well structured knowledge in this space today so I have to say this one is a recommended read.
I joined the blockchain industry 3 months ago and I wish this book was out back then... Anyway, it's good to get up to speed now. The Basics has helped with my client conversations, especially around the difference between public and private blockchains. Although I am not particularly technical, it was easy to understand the maths/crypto bits.

Well made. I love the strap for holding it together. Nice spaces for journaling thoughts and prayers after reading the content. No one beats Batterson when it comes to prayer. Great book/journal!

I was recently introduced to Ram Dass. I wish that I had read more of his stuff earlier, but I have enjoyed this book thoroughly. The book is written in a very readable way and many people would be able to understand it. I also recommend listening to him speak and reading Be Here Now.
A good read that touches on the poignant work of others, half the book was about meditation and some tips on how to solidify a personal practice, the other half was about societies and organizations that existed at that time so you can find a saathsang, a group to meditate and discuss ideas with. I had no use for the latter half, not ready for that. But I loved the first half, reading it brought a calm and peaceful feeling.
This little book is a joy for anyone interested in learning about meditation. Reading it for any length of time is almost meditative in itself. Ram Dass uses charming, down-to-earth language, including humor, which anyone can understand. He outlines the numerous benefits of developing meditative awareness, to the point where one is inspired to begin the practice. He discusses where and when to meditate, different types of meditation (although he cautions us not to get entrapped by "methods"), the importance of meditating in a way that is comfortable for each individual. Delightful read.
I enjoyed this book for its practical insights, as well its numerous inspirational quotes from diverse sources. Ram Dass is a man of clear thinking. He possesses great experience in the development of a viable, grounded meditation practice. This is the first time I have read anything from Ram Dass. This book is simple, to the point yet in depth and rich with a variety of perspectives. It's enlightened me and others I have shared it with in many ways.The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because half the book is addresses. This is the age of the internet. We can find meditation groups but thank you. I would delight in a smaller version to keep with the simple approach.
When Bhagavan Dass introduced Richard Alpert to the Maharaji it set into motion a chain of events that was meant to be. It realized a being who has been like an ice breaker breaking the ice of the western consciousness and helping free up beings. You don't have to become Hindu or buddhist to realize yourself, but you do need effective tools you use on a daily basis. Here are those tools. Realization takes work and here's how you can do it. Great Book. This is the second copy I ordered because I loved it so much that I needed to get one for a friend of mine. Book took an extremely long time to reach me (2 months) but that's because I'm currently overseas. Otherwise, great purchase!
