I think the author is not aware about the origin of Ayurveda. Here are some facts from Wikipedia -"The origins of Ayurveda have been traced back to around 5,000 BCE. Some of the concepts of Ayurveda have existed since the times of Indus Valley Civilization. The first recorded forms of Ayurveda as medical texts evolved from the Vedas. There are three principal early texts on Ayurveda, the Charaka Samhita, the Sushruta Samhita and the Bhela Samhita. The Sushruta Samhita is based on an original from the 6th century BCE, and was updated by the Buddhist scholar Nagarjuna in the 2nd century CE. The Chakra Samhita, written by Charaka, and the Bhela Samhita, attributed to Atreya Punarvasu, are also dated to the 6th century BCE.The Chinese pilgrim Fa Hsien (c. 337–422 AD) wrote about the healthcare system of the Gupta empire (320–550) and described the institutional approach of Indian medicine. The medical works of both Sushruta and Charaka were also translated into the Chinese language in the 5th century, and during the 8th century, they were translated into the Arabic and Persian language. The 9th-century Persian physician Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi was familiar with the text. The Arabic works derived from the Ayurvedic texts eventually also reached Europe by the 12th century. In Renaissance Italy, the Branca family of Sicily and Gaspare Tagliacozzi (Bologna) were influenced by the Arabic reception of the Sushruta's surgical techniques.British physicians traveled to India to observe rhinoplasty being performed using native methods, and reports on Indian rhinoplasty were published in the Gentleman's Magazine in 1794. Instruments described in the Sushruta Samhita were further modified in Europe. Joseph Constantine Carpue studied plastic surgery methods in India for 20 years and, in 1815, was able to perform the first major rhinoplasty surgery in the western world, using the "Indian" method of nose reconstruction. In 1840 Brett published an article about this technique."Though the information about various herbs is a bit elementary in nature but I felt disappointed when nothing found about the Educational background of the author (to confirm how she qualifies to write on herbs).
I find this book informative, but too short to discuss all the things I want to learn about herbal medicines. True enough, if you are looking for a faster remedy then modern or western medicine is a better option. But I also believe in the ability of herbal medicine’s ability to help our body. This book mentions some medicinal plants and their ability to help our body fight certain diseases. It ranges from the simple relaxing scent of lavender to the ability of turmeric to prevent colon cancer. I have learned a lot of herbal remedies in this book and I’m going to use what I’ve learned.
This book is great as it has detailed information on how to make herbal remedies, info about common ailments and herbs, as well as a ton of effective herbal remedies. This has such a great way of teaching practical and valuable information. This book on herbs was a great read. I liked that it went back years ago explaining how herbs were used in olden days. A good description of many herbs were provided. It also told how to use these herbs and how it would affect your bodies healing. Very interesting to read this book.
This book conveys the need to have the knowledge of the capabilities and power of herbs for remedies and healing. Though there are lots of technologies and advancements in medicine have come however, this techniques are the best first aid and cheapest way to sooth our pains. The present way of medicine won't be achieved without the birth of herbal medicines of the old folks. This book has provided evidences through case studies that shows disease control and wound healing within the body through the use of herbs. This book will help us decide how much herbs are able to help us personally.
Linda in this book provides an overview of the origin of herbal remedies and listed some of the common herbs that are readily available to which can benefit us today. If you are considering to get healed in a more natural way, then this book may provide some insight to what you need. Linda also shares her tips on how to grow your own herbs at home in order to give you the convenience in getting your fresh herbs supply. A good book for an introduction to herbal remedies.
Nothing is the best and cheapest remedy than the natural way. Through this book, lots of herbal remedies are learned and could be used in our day to day encounter of any kinds of diseases. Those plants that seems worthless are of great help really, not until you know it. With the cases being laid in this book, it proves the efficacy that herbal remedies offer. In this book, the history of the modern medicine has been traced.
Oh my goodness. This book is soo poorly written, there are spelling errors, grammatical errors, typos, random sentences put together and cut offs. I don’t know how anyone could have read this made sense of any of it, and taken anything in this seriously! How this book was able to get published and sell so many copies boggles my mind and worries me at the same time!
Very good book! I have been using herbal medicines for a time now and this book tells me a lot of more common herbal plants I can add on my list. I always prefer herbal medicines for remedies rather than buying over the counter drugs. I think they are more effective, safe and at the same time inexpensive. This book has allowed me to see the many benefits of just a single everyday spice and I have gained a new source of understanding towards herbal medicines. Kudos to the author for having this very informational book!
