From the Inside Flap
For almost a century and a half, Bulfinch's Mythology has been the text by which the great tales of the gods and goddesses, Greek and Roman antiquity; Scandinavian, Celtic, and Oriental fables and myths; and the age of chivalry have been known. The stories are divided into three sections: The Age of Fable or Stories of Gods and Heroes (first published in 1855); The Age of Chivalry (1858), which contains King Arthur and His Knights, The Mabinogeon, and The Knights of English History; and Legends of Charlemagne or Romance of the Middle Ages (1863). For the Greek myths, Bulfinch drew on Ovid and Virgil, and for the sagas of the north, from Mallet's Northern Antiquities. He provides lively versions of the myths of Zeus and Hera, Venus and Adonis, Daphne and Apollo, and their cohorts on Mount Olympus; the love story of Pygmalion and Galatea; the legends of the Trojan War and the epic wanderings of Ulysses and Aeneas; the joys of Valhalla and the furies of Thor; and the tales of Beowulf and Robin Hood. The tales are eminently readable. As Bulfinch wrote, "Without a knowledge of mythology much of the elegant literature of our own language cannot be understood and appreciated. . . . Our book is an attempt to solve this problem, by telling the stories of mythology in such a manner as to make them a source of amusement." Thomas Bulfinch, in his day job, was a clerk in the Merchant's Bank of Boston, an undemanding position that afforded him ample leisure time in which to pursue his other interests. In addition to serving as secretary of the Boston Society of Natural History, he thoroughly researched the myths and legends and copiously cross-referenced them with literature and art. Assuch, the myths are an indispensable guide to the cultural values of the nineteenth century; however, it is the vigor of the stories themselves that returns generation after generation to Bulfinch.

About the Author
Thomas Bulfinch (1796–1867) was an American writer, Latinist, and banker who wrote and collected the first popular English-language retellings of Greek, Roman, Eastern, Scandinavian, Arthurian, and medieval myths in his famous three-volume compilation, Bulfinch’s Mythology. "Without a knowledge of mythology," he wrote, "much of the elegant literature of our own language cannot be understood or appreciated." He added: "We trust our young readers will find it a source of entertainment," and his trust seems to have been justified, judging from the many generations who have found his books an enthralling and loving introduction to the worlds of classical and medieval myth and legend.Alberto Manguel is an internationally acclaimed anthologist, translator, editor, and bestselling writer of several award-winning books, including A Dictionary of Imaginary Places and A History of Reading. He was born in Buenos Aires, moved to Canada in 1982, and now lives in France, where he has been named an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.

While the contents of the book are wonderful, this edition is printed in such tiny text it is impossible to read. Purchase another edition and enjoy the stories.
Naturally Greek and Roman mythology is not preached today and, because of this, there are many different versions to nearly all the myths you have ever heard and read. Bulfinch includes the most popular versions and tells it in a way that is very entertaining. That being said, Bulfinch didn't actually write the majority of the book; he copies scenes, passages, and, sometimes, even entire stories from Ovid's "Metamorphoses."Furthermore, Bulfinch's approach is affected by the time period (mid 1800s), social norms, and his own personal opinion; he often slides in his own comments which leads the reader to doubt that he's telling the entire story-- and most of the time, he doesn't tell the whole story. He manages to exclude a lot of the sexual activity of the gods (which anyone who knows anything about mythology knows that the gods are always having affairs... ALWAYS) and insinuates that the gods were just spending time with one another. He also leaves out some of the gory details which are imperative in most stories; he glides over important scenes and repeatedly spends time explaining unimportant scenes instead.Nevertheless, it's a good read if you're looking for an introductory book about Roman and Greek mythology but keep in mind that these stories have many plot variations, just because it's in this book doesn't mean it's a fact. Once you've read this, I encourage you to read Ovid's "Metamorphoses;" Ovid is relaxed and comedic-some of his stories are told more for the entertaining factor than correctness, but it's still a very good, enjoyable read.I hope this helped!-K. J. Burks
It's a good collection and Gathering of Miss. But the reading of the book maybe a little dry and boring for some. It's not set out so much as a storytelling but as an information-based of this happens then this happens in the net happens and so forth and so on. But it's good information. Plus it's a solid hardback book
We've had this book for a long time, and it is a much-loved and much-used part of our library. Unfortunately, our old copy has seen better days, so it was time for a new one. This is THE go-to symposium of Greek myth, and also covers a great deal of Norse mythos as well.
I read this book in high school and loved it. I loved it so much I went around shopping for a copy. I unfortunately couldn't find the same edition as the one from high school, but this is just as good and damn gorgeous to look at. I'm in love all over again.
I went to Catholic school and this book was on the shelf reserved for older students. I had a fascination for mythology, reading other books in the library on Greek, Norse, and Celtic mythology. When I was old enough to read Bulfinch, I remember it as being a good read.Oh, but it is not a good read, nor is it well written. The point of view changes back and forth among second person, third person, and third person omniscient often within the same page. Major portions of important myths are dispensed with using a sentence or two.The author goes above and beyond to dismiss all contained as myth, "unlike Christianity." Whatever your religious viewpoint, this dismissal of the myths being told is repeated well past the point of annoyance, as if the author were afraid of being excommunicated were it not repeated every fifth page.It does provide some Arthurian legends that are not easily located elsewhere.
Beautifully bound book, provides an interesting perspective of Greek and Roman mythology as well as other ancient European stories. Still going through it and am looking forward to reading about Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
I enjoyed reading this book, just a few sections at a time. It isn't something I'd want to sit down and read cover to cover. The subject matter was interesting, and I loved reading different twists on the traditional stories. It was slow at the beginning, and I wasn't sure I would finish reading it, but it picked up as I got into the tone of it. Some of the parables (for lack of a better word) were silly, but I imagine the adventures during chivalrous times were pretty tame compared to the modern stories we're accustomed to reading. There's not a dragon to slay in every cave, but apparently every cave had a hermit who could offer a place to stay and some sage advice.

I just received the book today, I watched the map with the delivery driver approaching my house and greeted him at the door (minus the "Intruder, Intruder" alert). I was so happy to receive Crusoe's book, the driver even noticed and left with a big smile on his face. That is Crusoe, infectious happiness, laughter and a touch of sadness occassionally. Dad needs to stop reminding us Crusoe won't be around forever :'( I haven't finished reading it yet, I want it to last forever so I am rationing the chapters!! The book is beautiful, so many gorgeous photos and fun stories!! If you don't know Crusoe and you pick up this book and read his stories and find his videos online you will not regret it!! You will have discovered the fountain of happiness like I have and like so many other fans have!! A note to Dad (Ryan) and Mum (Laurence), you are so creative and you will always have my support whether it's a third Crusoe book or something totally unrelated!! Keep Ballin' Crusoe, keep making us smile and laugh, the world needs you!!
Crusoe's new book is even better than his first - it is a MUST READ. I preordered it, so it was on my doorstep as soon as it came out. This is my first day home from the hospital after having a heart attack, and it was so nice to spend the day with Crusoe. I laughed, I traveled vicariously and saw the world from a 14" point of view, and I even cried reading his letter to Laffie, thinking of all the loved ones I've had cross the Rainbow Bridge as well. Having just survived a heart attack myself, it was hard to read about his IVDD, but Crusoe, I promise to try to be as strong as you and Mum were and get better, too. When I first read in your blog the IVDD after it happened I was so sad, and I followed your recovery every day - Borat mankini and all. I've had 2 of my own who had to face that surgery and recovery, so I knew the fight you were facing. I was actually one of those fans waiting in line to meet you, Oakley, Mum and Dad in the Smokies, so I know that the book portrays the real you - classy, sweet and kind - and the real Oakley, too - a great little kisser. For me, on this day, my favorite part was from Branff: "For the first time I understood that I would never get the chance to conquer all those mountaintops...yet, somehow, I had come to accept that. Sometimes it's about where you are, looking our from the peak on which you stand to appreciate the world around you and the people around you." So yes, this book rocks. If you've never heard of Crusoe before, or if, like me, you are a confirmed fan, read it. It will take you to places you'd never see without it, and make you feel highs and lows from a celebrity dachshund's point of view. What could be more fun? And Ryan, don't worry. Thanks to you and Mum, Crusoe is not just loved by millions besides yourselves. He is immortal.
I love Crusoe and Oakley! Another great book of their adventures. We take our three dachshunds everywhere too. They have been all over Alaska (the beaches of Homer, AK was their favorite), walked on glaciers, swam near waterfalls, driven the AlCan from Missouri to Anchorage through Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon; seen San Francisco, Las Angeles, lots of beaches, and Napa Valley in California; visited Reno; Las Vegas (they were a big hit on the strip); Salt Lake City, where they had a whole flock of duck friends that they swam with every day when it was warm enough; Boise and the Snake River area, and Crators of the Moon park; the Tetons and Jackson Hole; Yellowstone National Park; Moab, Utah with the Arches and Canyonlands and dead horse parks where they LOVED canyoneering with help from their humans; Antelope Island, Utah where they made friends with the roaming buffalo; Zion National Park; Bear Lake, Utah with turquoise blue water that is so shallow the pups could wade way way out with us; the Green River area and Laramie, WY; Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri; Chicago; Nashville, Destin and Navarre, Florida; and their first big adventure that started it all 8 years ago to New Orleans. They will be visiting the East Coast with us during the next two years. It’s so good to see other dogs going everywhere with their humans. There is no reason to ever leave them behind! We have a child cart that we tow behind our ebikes that they just LOVE riding in. I think Crusoe and Oakley could use one also! Keep Ballin’
Whether you're already a CRUSOE fan or just discovering this loveable little guy, "CRUSOE the Worldly Wiener Dog" is a book that will put a smile on the face of EVERYONE who reads it.The beautiful pictures of Crusoe's worldwide travels with his family are handsomely bound and attractive enough to leave out on your coffee table for all to read. Not to be overlooked are the stories and descriptions of his amazing adventures as told from Crusoe's perspective.Just too cute to pass up andcan confidently be given as a gift to anyone from 1 to 100+.
This latest book from Crusoe, the Celebrity Dachshund, does NOT disappoint its readers and Fans! I received the book on the date it was released. Amazon did a great job getting it to me quickly (both the electronic version and the Hard copy book). I love the colorful photos of Crusoe (and Oakley, his half-brother) and the delightful stories depicting his travels throughout the World as well as at home in Canada. He has some funny stories about his Dad, Mum and Oakley as well. I love the one where Oakley goes to the Dentist (Crusoe)! I pre-ordered the book, so I should be receiving a Pawtograph from Crusoe himself! I purchased both the hard copy and electronic versions. Both are wonderful. The books are easy to read on your iPad or Kindle. Thanks Crusoe (and Ryan)!! And the Price is right! If you aren't currently a Fan of Crusoe, you must go to "Crusoe, the Celebrity Dachshund" Facebook page and check out the Season 1 & 2 videos! You will become a fan instantly! The videos will have you chuckling! Then you will want to get both books by Crusoe!

Brion, is THE SOURCE for anything to do with sailboat rigging and this book is as close as you can get to having Brion onboard. It is a must have for the limited amount of books one may carry at sea. There is also new material so it's time to upgrade if you have the previous edition.
If you like sailboats, this is the ultimate book to own. It goes over so many important skills, many of which have been lost over the years. There is even information on things like effective anchor rodes.
Own a sailboat? Like Marlinspike seamanship? Buy this book.
An excellent reference for sailors, especially traditionally-minded cruisers interested in building or maintaining their own gear. Entertainingly written by a well-known rigger who really digs his subject. A classic.
This book is so thorough, it could be described as information overload. If you own this book, you probably will not need any other, especially for marine rigging.
A must have for an serious seaman! Excellent

Review
"Few in our day champion a vision of God as massive, magnificent, and biblical as John Frame's. For decades, he has given himself to the church, to his students, and to meticulous thinking and the rigorous study of the Bible. He has winsomely, patiently, and persuasively contended for the gospel in the secular philosophical arena, as well as in the thick of the church worship wars and wrestlings with feminism and open theism. He brings together a rare blend of big-picture thinking, levelheaded reflection, biblical fidelity, a love for the gospel and the church, and the ability to write with care and clarity." John Piper, Chancellor, Bethlehem College and Seminary; Founder and Teacher, desiringGod.org"John M. Frame's Systematic Theology is a remarkable achievement. It is simultaneously scholarly yet accessible, sweeping in scope but penetrating in insight, steeped in historic orthodoxy yet fresh in reflection." Peter A. Lillback, President, Westminster Theological Seminary"Systematic Theology . . . is a worthy climax to the life's work of one who has only ever sought to be a faithful servant of Christ, teaching in his church. It is a privilege to celebrate its appearing and to commend it for serious study. I guarantee that the dividends of such study will be uniformly high. Thank you, John Frame, for this superb gift." J. I. Packer, Board of Governors' Professor of Theology, Regent College"The biblical and practical nature of his perspective makes this a refreshing and much-needed resource for all of us who care about a vital Reformed theology." Richard J. Mouw, President, Fuller Theological Seminary"This new systematic theology comes from one of the great theological minds of our age. John Frame's contributions to theology are already massive and many, but now he has given the church a systematic theology. This is a very important book, and it represents a lifetime of consecrated theological reflection. This new volume promises to be an enduring contribution to evangelical theology." R. Albert Mohler Jr., President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"John Frame is one of my favorite theologians, and his Systematic Theology is filled with the deep learning and warranted wisdom of a lifetime. I commend it warmly to the Lord's people everywhere." Timothy George, Founding Dean, Beeson Divinity School of Samford University; General Editor, Reformation Commentary on ScriptureFrame has produced what should become required reading in seminary classrooms and pastors studies for years to come. Mark Young, President, Denver Seminary"Clear, thorough, intelligent, and fair to opposing views, John Frame's work will now be the standard within traditional Reformed theology." -- Cornelius Plantinga Jr., President, Calvin Theological Seminary"Near the end of his long and fruitful career, John Frame has given us his chef d oeuvre. His Systematic Theology is the distillation of a life's work in reflecting on how God's Word relates to the Christian life of the simple believer. As his readers have come to expect, his chief emphasis is on the glory of God, the God who saves, the God who loves us. It would be nearly impossible to read this volume without being drawn into fellowship and conversation with the God who is at its center. Full of quotes from poetry, traditional theology, and even hymns, this is perhaps one of the most practical systematic theologies ever penned. It belongs alongside Turretin, Hodge, Bavinck, and the other hall-of-famers in the discipline. All we can say is: thank you, John Frame! William Edgar, Professor of Apologetics, Westminster Theological Seminary"John Frame's Systematic Theology is an important landmark in one-volume treatments of the major loci of doctrine. Frame's signature is readily apparent on every page: commitment to Scripture for everything he writes, accessible philosophical analysis of difficult questions, and, yes, triperspectivalism. This volume ranks as the most recommendable single-volume systematic theology of our time. Derek W. H. Thomas, John E. Richards Professor of Systematic and Practical Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson; Minister of Teaching, First Presbyterian Church, Jackson "John Frame the author has in Systematic Theology captured comprehensively and with clarity what many of us have benefited from in the classroom through John Frame the professor and teacher. His biblical precision and personal passion is spread on every page, which you will quickly desire to turn in order to get to the next page as he allows and propels us to see the singular glory of the triune God revealed in his Word as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. Harry L. Reeder, Pastor/Teacher, Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham Hurray for John Frame! At a time when systematics has been shoved into a corner by biblical theology in many seminaries, John has published what I can only hope will be an alternative to that imbalance. Not since A. A. Hodge's Outlines, Buswell, Reymond, and Grudem has a truly substantive systematic theology appeared. I expect Systematic Theology to become a classic, and I look forward to its publication with the greatest anticipation. -- Jay E. Adams, Author of Competent to Counsel; founder of the Institute for Nouthetic Studies (INS), the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC), and the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF)"On my bookshelf sit numerous systematics by Charles Hodge, Louis Berkhof, Robert Reymond, and Wayne Grudem. I enjoy them all. They inform, educate, and bring clarity to different issues within Scripture. While systematics are full of precious knowledge to assist any student to better understand God and his holy Word, the reader will find none so well written, with a meekness and tenderness of heart, as Frame's. The breadth and length and height and depth of God's amazing love graces this volume of theology. If Edwards's Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God can be said to have drawn sinners to Christ, Frame s work will be said to draw Christians even closer to understanding their Creator, God, and Lord more fully. This work is a necessity for every layman, pastor, and scholar alike. This systematic theology is written from and faithful to a Reformed perspective glorifying God and his Word. As expected, Frame makes extensive reference to Scripture and the Westminster Confession of Faith, but he makes good use of other confessions, too. While Frame is careful to address numerous contemporary issues, his work directs the reader to Christ to his salvation alone. This personalizes the text. Though it draws on yesterday, it makes it applicable to the reader today and forever (Heb. 13:8). Joseph R. Nally, Theological Editor, Third Millennium Ministries John Frame writes theology for those who want to use, and be used by, the Word of God. He has done his professional theologizing for many years in the context of the preparation of young men for ministry in seminary. But more to the point, his theology s practicality springs from his understanding of the nature of theological reflection itself. When I was his student over forty years ago, he told us, Theology is application. His discussions of the various loci of systematic theology always have an eye on the Holy Scriptures power and purpose to transform the lives of the people who study them intellectually and ethically. Anyone who reads this volume will be blessed with a more comprehensive and systematic appreciation for the teachings of the Word of God and at the same time will grow in renewing the mind and life by the Holy Spirit s speaking through the Word. Roger Wagner, Pastor, Bayview Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Chula Vista, California Systematic theology is notoriously challenging to read but even more challenging to write. I tell students that too many modern theologians have given us cookbooks that feed neither the mind nor the soul. John Frame is a great evangelical exception. He has mastered the historical method, and more importantly, his readers have come to expect that biblical theology will guide his systematic theology. As he says, The Bible is the most important thing. I welcome this important volume and encourage all readers of theology, especially students, to have Frame s valuable work at their side. John H. Armstrong, President, ACT3 Network; Adjunct Professor, Wheaton College Graduate SchoolAs one who has long admired and learned so much from John Frame s contributions to Reformed life and thought, I am so pleased that we now have this fine volume that gathers together the insights of a half-century of serious theological scholarship. The biblical and practical nature of his perspective makes this a refreshing and much-needed resource for all of us who care about a vital Reformed theology. -- Richard J. Mouw, President, Professor of Christian Philosophy, Fuller Theological Seminary

How does one review a systematic theology by one of the leading minds of the evangelical world? How does one summarize the thoughts of a 1,100 page book that towers with truth; a book that takes readers to the top of the theological mountain? Anyone who attempts to read and devour Systematic Theology by John Frame will be faced with such questions. Indeed, while the oxygen is scarce at the top of this theological peak, readers will be delighted to enjoy the view that Dr. Frame presents. As one might expect, every branch of systematic theology is explored. The author invites readers on a journey which introduces them to God who relates to creatures as their covenant Lord. The three lordship attributes are articulated throughout the book - control, authority, and presence.Several thoughts help capture the essence of this incredible book. While some will be put off by such thoughts, my hope is that a majority of readers will be motivated and inspired to pick up Dr. Frame's work. This powerful book is marked by at least ten features:It is God-CenteredIt is Scripture-soakedIt is unashamedly CalvinisticIt is conservativeIt exposes liberal scholarship and lays bare its erroneous presuppositionsIt is biblicalIt is mind-penetratingIt is heart-softeningIt is personalIt leads readers to worship GodSystematic Theology: An Introduction to Christian Belief by John Frame is a theological tour de force. This weighty volume is drenched with Scripture and is drowning with biblical wisdom. I cannot think of any other writer who has influenced my thinking, outside of Jonathan Edwards himself. This work is a true labor of love, a gift to the church, and a tool that will sharpen the minds of Christ-followers and serve as a heart-tenderizer for many years to come!Highly recommended5 stars
This is a wonderful Systematic Theology book. I had to buy it for my Systematic Theology II class at SBTS, and I'm thankful this was the textbook that was primarily used. It's what I expected from John Frame, because I already owned his Doctrine of God book. It's as clearly written as you could hope for.The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I think the material could be organized better. I currently teach Systematic Theology in a mid-week Bible study, and I always use Grudem's book instead of this one because the material is more clearly laid out with headings and subheadings and such. Grudem's meticulous organization makes his book much easier to teach from, though the writing itself is no better. If this book is ever produced in a second edition, I would recommend breaking some of the long sections up with different and more clearly defined headings and subheadings.
I love the work of John Frame. He is not afraid to say, "I don't know, but in the same breath he makes you realize that we don't need to know all things, because the Lord we worship is in control, with authority, and is present and is working all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.I have tremendous regard for Dr. Douglas Kelly, and his comments are far more valuable than anything this 67 year old layman can contribute so I defer to these words: “This Systematic Theology is by any measure a crowning achievement in a fruitfultheological career of teaching, preaching, and writing by Professor John Frame. Itis the outpouring of many jars of fragrant and well-aged ‘wine on the lees’: the richvintage that has been matured in a bright Christian mind that has been immersed inmeditation on (and obedience to) the Word of God in the fellowship of the Reformedchurch for more than threescore years and ten.“Like Frame’s other works that I have read, this book is written with enthusiasticfaith in God and in the Scriptures that the Holy Spirit inspired, and in fellowship withthe risen Christ. It is written clearly; Frame is never ashamed of his position (traditionalCalvinism), and is humble enough to say about some difficulties, ‘I do not know.’ Hiswriting exhibits humility and unwavering submission before both the clear truths andthe mysteries of God. He is always charitable toward those whose position he thinksis wrong and presents it fairly, and yet he does take a stand, which he knows will notsuit everyone. You might not agree with all that he says, but at least you will graspprecisely what he is saying.“Someone described C. S. Lewis as ‘A Mind Awake,’ and that is how I see John Frame. This volume shows how alert he is to moral, philosophical, and societal issues raisedby Christian truth claims over the last three centuries in a secular culture.“One of the great contributions of Frame’s theology is that it shows the inescapablenecessity of starting with—and remaining with—the presupposition of the truth ofHoly Scripture, for theology and for everything else that we wish to make sense of.Along this line, not only in this book but in others that he has written, I have found veryhelpful his explanation of why a certain circularity of reasoning is always necessarywhen arguing for any ultimate authority (e.g., whether Holy Scripture, human reason, empiricism, or, perhaps, evolutionism). Rationalists have long accused Christians ofcircular reasoning (as concerns the Bible), but what they do not tell you is that they, too, must use the assumption of a final authority themselves, in order to prove their point.“Frame’s section on the providence of God is one of the most beautiful that I haveever read. At times I was less than comfortable with his account of the rather directrelationship of God to evil, yet I am not sure that I could treat the subject any better,if as well. But I must keep thinking about it. His discussion of how God brings aboutfree decisions of humans—which both avoids short-circuiting our responsibility andavoids the false theory of libertarian free will (i.e., that our will is free from the controlof our fallen personality, and is ultimately free from the control of the SovereignGod)—is one of the best I have seen.“In sum, Frame’s Systematic Theology cogently and succinctly presents the mostcrucial thought and practice of the long Christian tradition (especially in its Reformedbranch, which has been concerned above all to be faithful to the entirety of HolyScripture), in terms that can be understood in this twenty-first century, where weare called to live. Frame’s English is lucid; his learning is great, but he does notoverwhelm you with it. His doctrine is in accordance with the Westminster traditionof the seventeenth century (and behind that, Calvin of the sixteenth century, and Augustine of the fifth), always looking at these Augustinian traditions in lightof God’s written Word (and under it), and he helps the reader to deal with the problemsof speaking and living out that tradition in an aggressively secular age. Thisvolume is eminently suitable for a seminary or college textbook. It will also giveinspiration to many a preacher (as it has to this one!). I perceive that it was writtenin an atmosphere of quiet joy, and I will be surprised if it does not convey somethingof that joy to those who read it.â€â€” Douglas F. Kelly, Richard Jordan Professor of Theology, Reformed TheologicalSeminary, Charlotte
I really want to read the whole thing soon, but so far I have only used it to reference a couple different things. However, its John Frame, so you know its solid.
John Frame is at his best in the writing of this book. He is insightful and helpful in digesting the teaching of the Bible and making its truth accessible to readers willing to use their own mind to its fullest capacity. But if you want light dribble, you will find this book laborious and wishing you had not invested the money in it. I'm of the mind that light dribble is devastating to Christian belief. I've read much of what John Frame has written and find him refreshingly above the "low information" books that apparently sell better than his deep theological reflection.
People over-use the term "magisterial" for any thick academic book; however, I would say the term applies without qualification here. If I have anything negative to say about the work, it's to wonder about Frame's addiction to speculative triads--but then, they're intriguing, and sometimes even convincing.

I took piano lessons for a little while during high school. This was my favorite book. Recently, many many years later, I decided to sit at the piano and play a little. I tore the house upside down trying to find my book, no where to be found, I was devastated. I could barely remember the title or composers.. but eventually, enough came back to me that I was able to track this one. I still was unsure I found it, until it arrived and I sat at the piano.. and then the magic happened.. Grateful to have found this! Wonderful collection.
The music in this collection has clearly been copied and recopied before it was put in this booklet. The music is very small, the notes are extremely close together, and there are too many measures to a page. I am being picky because when I want to play music, I want to be able to read the notes and play at whatever pace is called for. With the way the music is printed on the pages it would be difficult to play a piece allegro or faster because it is so difficult to read. I am surprised this really came from Schirmer's Library music. It almost seems like it is a knock-off. I won't return it, because it is not worth the hassle, but I will be donating it to Half Price Books or some other entity.
A great collection of fun-to-play sonatinas and other pieces. This book is always open at my piano. I enjoy sitting down and playing these favorite pieces when I have a spare moment. While cooking dinner, for instance, I will run through a Clementi as I wait for something to simmer or boil, and as I wait for my husband to get home each afternoon, I pass the time with any one of these works. Truly a classic, and definitely a musical treasure.
Ease of purchase for a hook I have used and recommended for years
Very good edition and a great selección of easySonatinas
Love all music pieces in here. I would go on and on playing all day long and be in a Happyland.
This edition has different dynamics and slurs. It’s hard to follow. My daughter had to make so much effort to fix the all dynamics to original one. I ended up with re-buying Alfred edition.
Love it, 4th copy I've owned

Fortran has evolved a lot from the FORTRAN IV that I used in the '70s. It is now a niche language, for sure, but is widely used in the engineering and scientific communities. There are several reasons for this, including being optimized for fast execution of calculations, compatibility with decades of engineering libraries for things like linear algebra and fast Fourier transforms, and excellent array and complex number processing.Recent versions have added all the things one expects in a modern high-level language, such as modules, object orientation, parallel processing, as well as features that improve portability, such the KIND system for declaring necessary precision of variables, and API compatibility with C programs. All the new features can be a bit overwhelming for those of us who used the FORTRAN of old and are getting back into Fortran programming, or even for engineers who are learning Fortran for the first time. This book helps, not by describing the features in detail (you would want a Fortran reference for that), but by showing how they are best used and what the pitfalls of using them are. And like all good style guides, it explains the rationale behind each recommendation, so you can more easily figure out if your situation is different and warrants a different recommendation.I am really happy that I bought this book.
I am an experienced programmer, but, before reading this book, considered myself to be only a 'competent' Fortran programmer. I now feel that the Fortran code I write is of better quality, and that I am adhering to best practices.
This is a book about code writing style - not a programming guide. Useful but not for someone who just needs to get code written.
This book is concise but salient details are not omitted. The authors' experience with Fortran is clearly evident in the exposition and presentation of the material. As a novice to Fortran (although not to programming) I found that I needed to spend a day reading Metcalf's 'Modern Fortran Explained,' which is also quite good, before I could completely understand the examples but aside from the basics no previous understanding is assumed. I find myself referring to this book often and appreciate the ability to draw from the authors' expertise. Overall the practices and solutions presented are of very high quality.
