this was a huge disappointment- should have known better as i have other works by them - the pictures are all jumbled together and nothing is clear as to whet it is all about - the pictures are so poorly lit and arranged that nothing is seen as a single item it is all pushed and shoved together - -i have many books on fairy villages and houses that are clear as day - do not waste your money on this pile of riff-raff - lots of moss and there are pages and pages of information i guess about the authors - boring - they should write a book about themselves if it is that important-it is not for us - my friend tore them out right away and tossed them - who cares a paragraph is plenty - the publisher made a huge mistake or maybe has not seen the wonderful fairy books that tell everything you need to know - there are a lot of really good ones out there check them out and skip this one - you will not be sorry !!! a true fairy lover - just looked at it again and the cover is dirty - that goes right with the rest of it- - -

Every page is packed with photos of the Schramer's adorable miniatures and even some original drawings. There are so many details to pore over—it's a real delight from cover to cover.

This is one book I will keep after taking ECE classes. Lots of great information.
This is a good textbook. It is relatively easy to read. My only problems was that it lists materials to include in specific studies of science, but does not tell you where they can be found.

I only have one beef about this book: the price. This book is only 192 pages long but costs more than some 500 page hardback college books. Normally, it would kill this book's buying appeal. Fortunately, this is worth it. Hands Down.Separated into three sections, this book begins in the most obvious place: understanding the scientific mind of child. It then moves to environment, curriculum, and stage-setting for scientific inquiry. Then it ends with the "how-to" about putting science in the early childhood classroom. Short. Sweet. Simple, but EXTREMELY Detailed.You know the best part about this book? Again, its simplicity of words. You don't always need 600 pages to teach a teacher how to impliment a strategy in his/her classroom. Sometimes it takes a few pages (like this one).Give it a try. It may be a little pricey, but I truly believe tha the superb content will soften that blow.

What a great book this is. The lavish photos by Mr. Lord are stunning, but the real deal is all his detailed inside information about Sissinghurst Garden. I assume most gardeners have heard of the place, but for those who haven't, this is widely considered to be the most beautiful garden of its kind in the world. Sissinghurst was created among the ruins of an English Tudor castle by Vita Sackville-West, her husband Harold Nicolson, their kids and gardening staff from the 1930's through the 1960's.The book is organized with one chapter for each garden area or outdoor room. A history of the area is given, with much failure and success along the way. Happily, the story doesn't stop with the passing of the Harold and Vita.The book continues the amazing efforts of Nigel Nicolson and the gardening staff once the property became a public trust in the 1970's. Not only has the original vision been preserved, but in many cases, it's been improved. A private garden originally made for a small family and their circle of friends had to learn to accomodate hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. Stunning when you consider that a garden is among the most ephemeral things on earth.Any passionate gardener will identify with the stories. Inspiration abounds for any garden. It is tremendously fun and informative to see the plan drawings and plant lists for each garden area. Not every plant is detailed. That would take many volumes. But a good representative sample is given for each garden area so you feel you really get the full story. The book was published in 1996, so the chronicle ends there. If Mr. Lord's other Sissinghurst book carries the story further, I'll need to pick that one up too.For anyone who wonders how such a miraculous place of beauty can be created, preserved, and carried to even greater heights, this is the book for you.
Often gardening books are mere tours but this one is so full of useful information. I don't expect to recreate Sissinghurst but this book will be a fabulous help in creating a better garden.
Loved seeing and reading about the history of this great estate as we don't have such great gardens anymore. Anyone who can't visit there or who is planing to go will love this book as it gives you a wealth of plants and how to use them in your own garden.

Edward Lee is the author of Smoke & Pickles; chef/owner of 610 Magnolia, MilkWood, and Whiskey Dry in Louisville, Kentucky; and culinary director of Succotash in National Harbor, Maryland, and Penn Quarter, Washington, DC. On one hand, Buttermilk Graffiti gives us the dramatic sweep of American Regional food in the 21st Century. As in 1939's United States Regional Cookbook, and Molly O'Neill's 2010 One Big Table, this food reflects place and people who've come from near and far. Edward Lee is as much an anthropologist and philosopher as he is gifted chef. His odyssey never nods, even as he questions his voyeurism and the possibility that he is appropriating someone else's cuisine.One the other hand, the recipes will require serious kitchen time to understand what he's done with the inspirations he found. I've not yet had time to do that. As an expatriated Southerner, my first recipe test will be the Lacy Cornbread, the last recipe in this tour-de-force.
Edward Lee references being an English major once-upon-a-time and his love of language and narrative comes through in this work. Although a few regionally inspired recipes are located at the end of each chapter, this is not cookbook. It is a journey to discover the origins of an American cuisine, if that even really exists.I marveled at Lee's gumption and inquisitive nature that took him to very unfamiliar neighborhoods that make up the melting pot. He also is transparent and vulnerable, letting us know when he does feel totally out of place. He also describes how Seattle will ever be linked in his mind with his father's death and the similarities of the immigrant communities with his own family's story.A truly innovative, encapsulating and evocative view of what makes up our country through the foods we nourish ourselves with.
This is a terrific book- I have followed Edward Lee's career and know his skills as a chef, but his writing is superb. He traveled all over the U.S. to eat in ethnic neighborhoods that are assimilating. I get emotional reading any cookbook, but this is beautifully written too. MFK Fisher meets John Steinbeck in 'Travels with Charley'.
This is not just a cookbook by a celebrated chef, its a piece saturated with literary value. It would be an underestimation to only take into account the great recipes that run through the book, the stories interwoven in it are compelling and beautifully written. This book is one not only to cook from, but to savor its words with a good tumbler of bourbon.
I so enjoyed watching this talented chef on Top Chef but was a little disappointed in the book. Not many useful recipes for this home cook. Good story of his journey.
Edward Lee’s voice is lyrical and compassionate. He made me feel as though I was sitting and eating with him as he went from restaurant to restaurant connecting with locals.
Great read! Good stories along with many recipes I’m looking forward to trying out. Can’t wait!

If you're a vet assistant or a vet tech and just want a quick reference guide to helping your furry friends, grab this book. It also has a CD with it that has some educational ACT videos on it. Well worth it.
I'm hoping that I can work in the animal medical field one day and this book not only helped me in vet assistant class but I can read it anytime as a refresher.
I like the book! But I wish didn’t have coffee stains. But it’s a good buy :)
I know in the description it was stated, paper cover. But things last longer. if it was textbook. that's it.
This is a great book to help the novice learn the basics of veterinary care and what to expect when working with animals.
